Project Intro

About Fair Trade: Material Matters

‘Fair Trade: Material Matters’ is a project created by artist Jane Frost. This project brings people and places together, combining drawn self-portraits and hand stitching onto recycled wool blankets.

Material Matters relates to Slow Making, exploring the process of long-term collaborative and sustainable actions, materials and communities.

Drawings and conversations are shared in the spirit of creative commons, and restorative actions, a fair-trade exchange. Participants of all ages are invited to draw their self-portrait; they keep the original and provide carbon copies to be hand stitched by the artist onto recycled blankets using woad dyed wool yarn.

Presentation and exhibitions of the project vary, depending on the host venue.

We hope you enjoy the story, self portraits and journey of the project shown here.
